Lisa Helm Ballew

Lisa Helm Ballew

Lisa Helm Ballew grew up in Midland, Texas, where she learned drawing, painting, textiles, collage and ceramics from her mother, the artist Norma Helm Webb.

She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in business and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington. While in the program she took advantage of every architecture, design, drawing and painting class available to her.

Her inspiration comes from natural order, architecture, and the natural and built environment. Her artwork includes abstracts, landscapes, architecture, botanicals and modern folk art. She works in pencil, ink, watercolor and mixed media, and in landscapes in estates, gardens, ranches, and higher education campuses throughout North Texas.

She has won several awards for architectural delineation. Her work is held in private collections throughout the United States and at the University of Texas at Arlington Library.

Lisa teaches design, watercolor, mixed media and collage to all ages, from elementary school through senior citizens, individually or in workshops of up to thirty participants. She received ArtsActivate grants from the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs in 2023, 2024 and 2025 to teach in the ALAANA community, conducting watercolor, collage and architecture workshops in underserved neighborhoods.

She is married to a musician and has two grown children. She divides her time between Dallas, her studio at the Goldmark Cultural Center, her treehouse in Mount Ida, Arkansas, and the Ouachita Artists Gallery and Studio.
